How to get to Moalboal Cebu, Phiippines

How to get to Moalboal Cebu, Philippines

Experience the heat this summer at the ultimate Beach, Snorkeling, and Diving destination in Cebu!

MOALBOAL

Located in the southern part of Cebu  lies a place that makes you visit over and over again. Moalboal offers white powdery beaches with clear crystal waters and one of the best snorkeling and diving sites in Cebu.

What Makes me Go Back and Back to This Place?

The people

When you reach the town proper you could see vibrant faces everywhere going about their respective things to do in a day. Also, you wouldn't miss to see foreigners going around the area.

The town

The town is not that sleepy compared to the other towns I've been to in my other travels. As soon as you get to the town proper you can see that everything is in place - stores, public market, tricycles, motorcycles and everything you need for a beach holiday.

The sites

Moalboal has two sites that is best for visit depending on what you want to experience in a beach place such as this. The places are BAS DIOT and BAS DAKU.

Bas Diot

Bas Diot, my favorite, is actually the PANAGSAMA area. The place is called Bas Diot because the beach area in the place is only "Diotay" in local dialect, which means small. What you can see most in the seaside area are the magnificent live colorful corals and fishes.

- It is like you are inside a huge aquarium where you can play with NEMO, sea horses, turtles, barracudas when you go snorkeling.

Bas Diot  has the greater number of resorts in the area since more tourist stay there mainly for snorkeling and diving.

Bas Daku

Bas daku is another thing.  Bas daku is the SAAVEDRA area which is better known as Bas "Daku" in dialect, which means big. The place offers a wide stretch of white beach with very cheap nipa hut cottages  to average expensive resort rooms.

Local tourist loves to come here for team building, family outing or just simply to go overnight with their friends. The water is so clear that you can even see the things underwater on a bright night sky.

Another Site

PESCADOR ISLAND

Another site that is always visited by foreigners or for those who can afford, is the PESCADOR ISLAND. This island has been featured to a number of national and international media because of it's  underwater beauty that is rarely seen somewhere else.

How to get there

You can easily get to Moalboal by Bus or Vans for Hire (V-hire)

1.  Get to the South Bus Terminal (CSBT)

Getting to Cebu South Bus Terminal is pretty easy. If you are familiar with the Cebu City area you can either take a jeepney or a taxi. Several jeepneys pass the terminal area, but if you are not sure which one to take, you can always check on the jeepneys signboards, if not, locals would always be there willing to help.

Fare:    Jeepney  = Php 7.50

            Taxi = Php 80.00 ( + - )

* Within City Area

2. Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT)

There are two main bus companies going to Moalboal, the LIBRANDO Bus Liners which has it's own terminal  just across the CSBT or the CERES Bus lines located inside the Cebu South Bus Terminals. You can take any of the two bus companies, but for the CERES Bus, just make sure it passes through Moalboal since they offer different routes to different destinations going south of Cebu.

* Refer to signboards or ask Bus liner's personnel.

Fare :  CERES BUS/LIBRANDO BUS  Php 100.00 ( +- )

3. Vans for hire (V-hire)

If you want to take the V-hire, you can go to the the CEBU CITILINK Terminal. Again, getting there is pretty easy be it be by Jeepney or Taxi. Refer to jeepney signboards or ask some locals for direction.

Fare:    Jeepney  = Php 7.50

            Taxi = Php 80.00 ( + - )

V-hire fare: Php 150.00 (+ -)

*I wouldn't advice taking V-Hire for safety reasons.

Enjoy the 2 Hours Scenic ride...

3. Getting to Moalboal Town Proper

For first timers, getting to Moalboal might give you a feeling being a little unsure, unsafe and confused, but hey, no worries, it is very easy. All you have to do is to tell the bus conductor to drop you off at the Moalboal Public market. You would know that it is the right market because just right across the Public market is the Moalboal Elementary Public School. The bus will then drop you at the bus stop area.

4. At Moalboal Public Market

Upon arriving at Moalboal Public Market, you will be met with tricycle and motorbike(Habal2x) drivers. Go down the bus comfortably, stop, think and relax. You might want to buy things you need in the market because going to the sites is a little far so things there are a little expensive there already.

5. Ready for the Site

As soon as you are ready, decide which site to go and ask a tricycle or a motorbike(habal2x) driver to take you to your desired site.

Fare:  Tricycle : Php 20.00  (+ -) will not go over php 30.00

          Motorbike (HABAL2x) : Php 20.00  (+ -) will not go over php 30.00

*Drivers will help you look for cottages and resorts if you haven't reserved or found one to stay.

iTravelskiks Recommends:

Going Bas Daku

- If you are going for Bas Daku on a tight budget, Tell the tricycle driver to take you to Manong Viktor's Cottages. They would know where it is.

- Manong Viktor owns open and close cottages beach front at a very affordable rates ranging from Php 150.00 to Php 800.00 - 1000.00 (Overnight Close Cottages with own Bathroom)

If you have enough budget, you can ask the driver to still take you to Manong Viktor's place, and from there you can walk around a little and look for good resorts. They are plenty to find.

Going Bas Diot

Same as going to Bas Daku, tell the tricycle driver to take you to the beach area and from there, you wont have problems getting a room from the many resorts in the area.

Average Room Rates : Php 1500.00 - Php 2500.00

What are you waiting for?

    2. Hi April!

      Thanks for visiting my blog.

As for your question, it really depends on what you and your friends are in to. If you like to relax a bit, play a bit of volleyball or other beach games with your friends, I suggest you get to Bas Daku beach first. Bas Diot is more of like the dark side of Moalboal, you won't see much of it's beauty on land but under water.

*Bas Diot has more of the resorts and cottages - if you are planning to stay overnight.

      Hope this helps

      Enjoy your travels...

  3. Hi just wanna ask for the price range of snorkeling and diving in panagsama?=)Thanks2

  4. Hello there! As for your question on the price range for Diving in Panagsama, it would probably be around Php. 1,200 - 2,000 per person. Rates depends on where you dive in the area. As for snorkeling, I'm not so sure if there are shops that would allow you to rent their snorkeling gears, if there are, it would probably range from Php. 100.00 - 200.00. It is best if you just bring your own snorkel set to enjoy the beautiful corals for free. Note: these rates are just estimates to my best knowledge in the area.

    Hope this helps...
