How to get to Surigao City Philippines

Ready na ka?

Larga na ta!

SURIGAO Ta Bai!

Surigao City is considered one of the gateways to Mindanao because it is from there where anybody could go to almost any part of the island.

Local and international tourists pass through the city to get to it's well known islands for surfing or just simply getting to some resorts with breathtaking views and location that is yet to be known to everyone.

The City

Surigao City is not that big nor is it as progressive as the other cities in the country. It's primary means of transportation is the Tricycle. As the city is getting the attention to the local and international tourists, commercial establishments like Gaisano Capital, Citi Hardware, are starting to get into the scene.

The People

People in Surigao are best known  for there hospitality and hardworking personality. Whenever you need them, they are surely there to lend you a helping hand.

The Security

I have been going back and back to the place since 2010 and have yet to experience not so good incidents up to now.

How to get there

Getting to Surigao City is very easy so you shouldn't have any problems getting there by just following this guide.

1. Starting point is CEBU City

As always we start our travel by getting on a Jeepney or Taxi in going to places around the city.

If you don't have any tickets yet, you can go to any travel and tours offices to get your tickets located just about everywhere in the city area. If you want a safe and specific ones, you can hid down to shopping malls as for sure you will find these ticketing offices.

Cebu Pacific Air Ticketing office is located at the Robinsons in Fuente.

Once you are ready, hid down to the Pier or Airport by Jeepney, if you aren't carrying things much or by Taxi which is the more convenient one.

2. Means of transportation

There are different means of  transportation going there. One is by Ship, the other one is by Plane either of the two you can choose depending on your budget and time.

By Ship

There are two shipping lines plying for the destination. One is the Cokaliong, my ship of choice, the other one is 2GO shipping. Cokaliong shipping offers daily trips, while 2GO shipping goes there every Wednesdays and early Sundays.

Ship fare :  Cokaliong Shipping : Tourist = Php 950.00 (+ - )

                                                  Economy = Php 850.00 (+ -)

                  (Daily)  Sailing Time :  7:00 PM ( Pier 1)

*Estimated Travel Time: 10-12 hours

                   2GO Shipping (Formerly Cebu Ferries) : Tourist = Php 1000.00 (+ - )

                                                                                      Economy: ?

                   Wednesday            :      3:00 PM      Pier 4
                   Sunday                  :      4:00 AM      Pier 4

 *Estimated Travel Time: 6 - 8 hours

For more information on the rates and schedule, you can visit their respective websites by clicking the links below.

iTravelskiks recommends: If you plan to travel by ship, take the tourist accommodation if you can as the economy area gets too crowded at times and tends to be hot if you are still at sea the next morning.

By Plane

Getting there by plane is a whole lot faster than by Ships. Unfortunately, they only have (2) two daily flights. If you can't make it on their time, you'd have to go for the Ships.

Planes flying there are the Cebu Pacific Air and the Air Philippines Express. I take Cebu Pacific Air.

Plane Schedules

*Estimated Travel time is 30-40 minutes only.

Air Philippines Express 12:50 PM     Click Here: Air Philippines Express Website

*For clear and specific flight schedules and ticket booking, click their respective website links.

*PREPARE Php 200.00 for the airport terminal fee as this might get you stuck looking for some change.

iTravelskiks Warning: Do not hand-carry the following items: Liquid or gel based items - Perfumes, Alcohol, etc..., Sharp objects, UMBRELLA - This I don't know why, and any flammable materials as these will be confiscated if not, you'll be asked to pay for it to be allowed.

3. Arrival at Surigao City Airport

Landing at the Surigao City Airport always tends to get a little bumpy at times because of it's site area. So you just have to make sure that you fasten your seat belt tight, and things would do just fine.

The airport is a regular domestic airport, small simple and hassle free.

Once you get outside of the airport building there are tricycles and multicabs waiting to take you where you want to go around the small city area.

*Tricycles and Multicab Jeeps in airport vicinity are expensive. Take a short walk outside to the main gate. tricycles from there are cheaper compared to the ones inside.

Note: No Taxis in the City, only Tricycles and Multicab Jeeps

4. Arrival at the Surigao City Port

Once you get outside the ports gate, you can see tricycles and multicab jeeps you can rent to go anywhere around the city area.

Note: No Taxis in the City, only Tricycles and Multicab Jeeps

Enjoy wherever it is that you want to go in Surigao!!!
